Four emerging workplaces models

The workplace of the future is being shaped based on the lessons from today. One of the most important is to guarantee the health and safety of the people who are part of the companies and who carry out the work.

We have a golden opportunity to rethink the way we work. At least five new office models have appeared, and more may arise.

1. Remote Workplace

It is an inevitable possibility for many businesses. However, it requires significant effort and a lot of technology to work properly.

The lack of contact with the team is the main challenge this model faces. Among its advantages, there is the possibility of hiring in remote places and saving costs.

2. The hybrid model

There are several ways in which it can be carried out. It may consist of either working several days of the week remotely or carrying out remote work depending on the area, activity, or position.

In any case, it is a resource that combines remote work and office work. However, it could cause some inequalities among employees. For example, related to their internet connection or family situation.

Two work-at-home days per week are optimal for achieving a work-life balance; reducing stress and time spent on commuting. Unfortunately, it does not work in all cases. The needs of both the company and the workers must be taken into account.

3. The remote “plus” model

Consisting on another flexible way of merging remote and office work. In this case, the employee works in the office for one week, followed by three weeks of remote working.

This practice allows employees to enjoy the benefits of working remotely while keeping in touch with colleagues and fostering teamwork.

4. Hub & Spoke

It is a way of radial distribution: it expands from the center, like sun rays

The company is headquartered and expanding, with satellite offices in other cities or countries to leverage local skills.

Co-working

Co-working allows people to share a workspace between different companies, unlike the traditional office model in which each organization maintains its own space. They are new and improved co-working spaces; a perfect solution for companies that need multiple locations with flexible designs.

Types of co-working:

  • Hot desking: Space is organized by arrival order
  • Dedicated co-working: Employees have an assigned or regular place
  • Private offices: They are larger shared spaces
  • Custom builds: Some co-working centers work with larger clients to customize their facilities according to their specific needs.
  • Flexible workspace packages: This modality includes one-day office rentals or small offices for large teams that rotate their offshored staff as needed.

Many co-working centers have expanded and adapted their services to meet the needs of their clients in a creative way.

Work Space

The workspace has become one of the most important factors for employees to decide whether to change jobs. Managing them properly, and providing safety and efficiency, is a necessity that companies must meet.

Companies are adapting their work culture to more flexible and dynamic spaces. The market also offers new alternatives, such as co-working spaces, whose office types are being adopted by many companies.

Tools like those offered by Bookker are the solution to manage these spaces and the new way of working.

COVID-19 has abruptly eradicated employer skepticism, proving that remote working works. The lockdowns will end, but this does not mean a return to the traditional office.
